Thoughts from the Relief Society General Broadcast

I loved the Relief Society Broadcast this year...I love it every year but I really needed it this year....especially since my release.
Here are the notes I jotted down during the session....I love taking notes from the talks and then looking back on them. Such an upper!

We will find Him in the details of our life.
Women are asked to be nurtures but to also be firm in their foundation.

Weekend Update....plus Monday

I wanted to post over the weekend but Chris was working on homework and we only have one computer. Today is the first day I've had a chance to actually sit down and type for a few minutes. Elmo's World is on for Elodie so I have approximately 15 minutes!!
We had such a fabulous weekend. I was off from work from Thursday through Sunday and we enjoyed every minute as a family.
Thursday night Elodie and I went and played cheerleader for Chris while he played softball with the Elder's Quorum. It was so much fun and I could tell he missed playing. Between Snowflake and the first couple of months we lived down here, Chris was playing a ton of ball. And I really enjoyed watching him play!! City ball down here is too competitive and not LDS at all. Guys using fowl language and such....which I guess can be common in church ball too! :) I enjoyed sitting in the stands with a few other supportive wives from our ward. It was super nice chatting with them and because they are new in the ward it was nice getting to know them better. Felt like I was doing a RS visit. :) Chris is playing again this Thursday but unfortunately is the last game of the season! Bummer that he just barely found out about the team 2 weeks ago! And they have been playing for 8 weeks! He would have really enjoyed that!! The Elder's Quorum just doesn't have their act together when it comes to making announcements or sending emails!!
Friday, Elodie and I didn't go to playgroup. I wanted to take her but the group was going to the Phoenix Zoo and I didn't want to bum a ride....transferring a car seat, needing a stroller, it was too much of a hassle. Plus, I'd much rather go with Chris. Audrey said they had a great time but stayed a bit longer than expected. Another reason I didn't want to go. We took Elodie to get her 2 year pictures Friday night and I wanted to make sure she got her afternoon nap!! And she did so that was nice.
So Friday night we took Elodie to JC Penney to get her 2 year pictures taken...she did a fabulous job and all was fine except for the fact that we had to wait FOREVER and we had an appointment that we were early for!! It was well after 7pm before we even got Elodie in the studio...and our appointment was for 6:20pm. It's over now and the pictures turned out great but I don't know if I"ll take her back there again. The pictures are quality and the price is cheap but how much is my time worth ya know? Atleast we were at the mall and able to walk around and do some shopping and get something to eat.
Saturday was fabulous!! Chris played basketball with the Elders Quorum until about noon and we went to lunch at Barro's. I went to Michael's to get some last minute things for Audrey's Baby Shower invitations while Elodie slept and Chris watched some football on tv. Later that evening I went to the Relief Society Broadcast at the stake center and sat with a bunch of women from our ward. I'm always reluctant to do girl stuff by myself. Not because I don't want to socialize but mostly because I would rather be with Chris. Even after 5 years of marriage can you believe it!?:) But like everything else, I was so glad I went and loved the message and loved the socializing! The stake had planned dinner for us after the broadcast and it was so nice to just sit around and chat. I always love getting got know the women in my ward better and these activities do just that!! It was a great night. When I got home, Chris, Elodie, and I went to Target and got ice cream and root beer for root beer floats. I'm always in the mood for coldstone but Chris wasn't up for it! The root beer floats were good though...note to self, they are better when the root beer is super cold!! :) Ours was fresh off the shelf so it was warm and the ice cream was cold but not cold enough to cool down the pop. Oh well!! Still fun!
We stayed in and caught up on our tivo shows and I worked on Audrey's shower invitations...50 in all and I'm not even half way done. A good project for me!!
Sunday was nice too....it was crazy going to church with a smaller bag and not having any reason to rush to the library or show up to Sunday school late. I'm still struggling a bit....Lori is going to do a fabulous job and I have to remember that! I still haven't been issued a new calling...I should be trying to enjoy that but it's hard!! I love our ward and would love to serve again. I'm not sure if our Bishopric thinks we are moving soon but they issued Chris a new calling after he was released from Young Men's. Who knows what's in store for me!! Time will tell I guess!
Sunday afernoon we had hamburgers and pasta salad for lunch and unfortunately I had to work in the evening. BLAH! I hate working on Sunday and slowly but surely getting filtered out of Sunday shifts...but for now it's still required. Only 2 times a month so it isn't that bad...I just feel so guilty and I hate leaving my family on Sunday!!
And now we come to Monday..morning was typical but Brooke called and asked if I could watch Caleb Rasmussen for her...Marielle is back to work and Brooke is watching him for her...Isaac had a doctor's appointment and they didn't want to bring Caleb too. I was happy to help and it was fun having a baby in the house again. Elodie loved him!! She was super gentle with him and even wanted to hold him!! Didn't make me baby hungry but it was nice to see Elodie with him....I am off until Friday so it was so nice to actually have an FHE night!! We didn't have anything really planned except Monday night football! :) After dinner and us lopping on the couch Chris asked me if I wanted to take Elodie to see a kid movie!! I thought it was a fabulous idea and it has been forever since we have seen a movie in the theater! We chose "The BarnYard" and headed out. It was around 8pm when the movie started so a bit late but Elodie loved it. And besides one other couple we were the only ones in the theater!! Elodie was so excited. She kept saying "Watch a movie mommy!" over and over again! So cute! It was super fun and we had a great evening!!
I am so blessed in my life! I love my life and I love my family!!

BRRRRRRR!!!

This morning when I went outside to take Ginger potty, It was so chilly!! I wasn't expecting it so I was just in shorts and a t-shirt!! BRRRR! It was so nice though and I just love the fall/winter time in Arizona...from about October to mid May it is so beautiful here and I just love it!! Ideally, I would love to have snow occasionally too but we can just drive up to Snowflake for that! Atleast we can see it on the mountains and that gives you the feel of snow!!
I'm really excited about the change in weather!! I walk outside and can SMELL that the weather is changing! It's so nice outside!! I love all the holidays in the winter time...Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. I think that's pretty much every holiday of the year!! Chris always sais that about me...that I love every holiday!! And I do!! I love to pull out all of my decorations and make my home festive!! Wishing I could be in my new house for the holidays but it will just make next year extra special!!
I get so giddy when I see holiday decorations and I want them ALL!! I'm already thinking about what I am going to write about in our Christmas letter and how I am going to make my Christmas cards!! So exciting!!
I have so many wonderful things in my life!! I have a super husband who is dedicated and loves me and Elodie!! Our family is healthy and we have so much to look forward to!! It's such an exciting time in my life and I am just so happy and thankful to my Heavenly Father for all the things I'm blessed with!! THANK YOU!!
I thought the other day after I had been crying about being released from Relief Society. I have so many happy things in my life, I don't need to be sad about this one thing! If anything, it's an opportunity for me to do something new, and how can you be sad about that!!

Ginger....

Last night Chris and I were in bed talking and Ginger had assumed her usual position in our bed. We got to talking about Ginger and all her little querks...and it occured to me that I have never taken the time to write down things about Ginger. She is such a sweet little girl and is so much apart of our family. There are definitely things about her that I don't want to forget. Before Elodie was born, when Ginger was our only child, I had a scrapbook for her. Unfortunately, that stopped once Elodie joined our family. Talking about all her querks definitely motivated me to create a layout about our sweet little ginger at age 4. Until I can sit down and do it, here are my thoughts for the layout.

Ginger:

-She still sleeps with us! 4 years later we still have her in our bed. Some nights she sleeps the whole night with us, other nights she jumps off and sleeps on her own bed. Her favorite spot in our bed is underneath the covers between your legs. This can be very uncomfortable because Ginger becomes a wet log once she is asleep and is impossible to move!

-When Ginger eats, she takes one piece of food at a time and goes in a corner to eat it. She was the runt of her family and I think it was her only way of keeping her food when she was little. I guess she hasn't figured out yet that she is the only one in our family who wants her food!!

-She loves ice

-She doesn't really like for you to throw her bone but she will give it to you just to see if you will throw it. As soon as you reach for the bone, she's grabbed it and off to chew on it somewhere else. It's like she is testing us to see if we will pay attention to her. And that's good enough for her!

-She is the hugest snob towards other dogs!! She doesn't like being around them and if she has to be around them it takes her forever to warm up to them!! We took her out to the Big Dirty this year and she spent the whole weekend running from Chewy (Amanda and Heath's little dog) She wanted nothing to do with him!

-Treats are a must. You can get Ginger to do anything for a treat.

-Underneath the table is her safe haven.

-When she is out of food or water she sits in the kitchen scrapping at her bowl until someone comes and fills them for her! It can be a bit annoying if your in the middle of something else, but she is so persistent!

That's all I can think of right now...I'm sure there is more and I will have to add to it!

I think it was my last post I mentioned our house was coming along. The foundation had been laid and when we went to go look at it, Jerry spotted us and told us it would be exactly 6 months from this month that our house will be done. So we are looking at the end of Febraury begininng of March for move in. I'm really excited. We know we will have enough money to afford this house and so we aren't so panicky anymore. Even Chris mentioned on Saturday that he was getting really excited about the house. After we went and saw our house, we stopped by Sarah and Michael's house to visit and see some new furniture they got. I'm excited that we will have them as neighbors. They are super people and it's so nice that our friendship will continue well after campus housing! Their house is coming together nicely. Last Saturday I went over and helped her paint stripes in her living room. You can't really tell what it will look like with the blue tape on the wall and no furniture in the room but Saturday when we went over there everything looked so nice! Especially since they have put furniture in there and the room is coming together! Looks great! We are planning to sign up for Trading Spaces when we move out there. Sarah said she was saving her bedroom for that! I think I feel the same way...either that room or the front living room. I know what I want to do with the kitchen and the family room and I have color ideas for our bedroom but I am drawing a blank with the front living room.
Anyway, here are a few pictures from our visit out to our house on Saturday. Hoping to get enough pictures together to create a mini scrapbooking album. I think that would be fun. Until next time.....

Weekend Update...

So as I predicted, yesterday was pretty rough on me! I think I was crying before the Bishop even announced the releases. Everybody around me must have thought I was a complete idiot. Then of course it all made sense! Although this has been a really rough transition, Sunday brought a lot of closure for me. Almost like the responsibilities of it all lifted off my shoulders yesterday and it's okay to give it all to someone else. Still doesn't mean it's not hard, especially with everyone wanting to hug you and ask if you are okay. It seemed like as soon as I gained some composure someone else was asking how I was doing!! And to make it 10 times worse, the Bishop came into Relief Society and thanked us for our jobs and Audrey stood up and bore her testimony! I was a mess!! But I'm glad it's over. I know next week will be a lot better!
I will say too that I'm excited for the new presidency. The sister that took over my calling was one of my teachers so I know she will do a fabulous job! She knows what's expected of the teachers and that will make it alot easier on her!! She definitely won't go into the calling with no knowledge of how it all should be run. Plus I know the other teachers will be taken care of! Sometime this week, I have to get together with the new 1st counselor and train her. I'm hoping to get this done on Wednesday, since this is the day that I usually post the midweek announcements and update my RS roster and such. I'm anxious to get this done as it is the final task to "pass the buck" so the sooner it gets done the better. In a good way of course! :) We are still going to be involved in November's Enrichment so we aren't completely out of it! I am also excited for Marisa because she was kept as the new 2nd counselor! That will definitely be good for the Presidency since she already has a good idea as to what is going on! She is such a great girl and I hope we can still get to know each other better even if we won't be serving together in the Presidency!
I also have to admit that I'm anxious to see what my new calling will be. I would love to serve in the Relief Society but I will go where ever I'm needed.
I won't say the transition is completely over. I definitely sound better in this entry than ones before but I am excited about alot of things. I thought the other day, you know I have alot of fabulous things in my life. I'm happy and excited about the future. I shouldn't be so sad over one little part of me when there are so many great things that I have in my life!
I know Heavenly Father is helping me get throug this! I will be at church on Sunday so don't worry about me there! :)That's a start right?

Chris and I went to the Temple last night with Audrey and Derek. It's sad to say that in the past year that we have been in our callings, this is the first time we have done something as couples. It was really nice being in the Temple with them and afterwards we went out to eat at Red Robin. Such a fun time!! They are such a fun couple and I hope we get another opportunity to hang out with them soon. I mean with all our free time! :) Had to get that in somehow!
Tonight we went over to Scott and Marielle Rasmussen's house for Scott's birthday. We were there with Michael and Brooke, Derek and Audrey, Christy and Casey Grey, Jon Stone (Tina was out of town) and Mark and Mariley Johnson. It was fun but I will admit a bit awkward since both Jon and Mark are in the Bishopric and this is the first time we have talked to them since they came over last Sunday to release me.
I will say that one of the hardest parts about this week has been pretending as if nothing changed.....that we are still the same presidency we were before and nothing will change from that. No one knows except our spouses and the Bishopric so it's tuff when I get a phone call to add an announcement to the Relief Society Bulletin or a couple of times tonight someone would make a comment about the Relief Society Presidency. Me and Audrey just had to glance at each other and pretend like everything is okay. All of that will change tomorrow. I worry about the way I will deal with all of it. Especially after Sacrament. You know people are going to want to talk to me and hug me. It's just going to make it harder to keep my composure. I'm sure I will be the hugest mess! If I'm this way by myself, I can't imagine how tomorrow will be for me!! Hopefully I can keep it together.
It's funny how something that use to seem like a burden sometimes, now is a little sad to let go of. Wednesday was officially my last Wednesday to send out the midweek announcement. It use to feel like one more thing on my plate but this past Wednesday I got a little teary eyed as I sent it off. Funny how once you lose something it then becomes something you don't want to let go of!! But before seeemed like something you didn't want to do! 'Tis is life!
Well, it is late and I should go to bed. Want to make sure I read the Relief Society Lesson before tomorrow!
Now that Chris has been released from his Young Men's calling he will be attending Elder's Quorum and will need to read the lesson before hand. Hoping to make it part of our Saturday tradition...will let you know when we start making some progress.
Speaking of progress. Went out to our house and they poured the slab. Talked to Jerry (our KB rep.) and he said it is officially 6 months from this month! So we are looking at being in our house mid March. Hopefully a little sooner than that but then again, the longer we save our money the better. What is crazy is Chris will only have one more semester left come March and then we will be done with school! Woo! Hoo! Lots to look forward to!

What I've learned so far.....

I was laying in bed last night still not over the fact that I've been released from my Relief Society calling! Christopher has been so helpful in helping me deal with all of this. This is the first time I've been released from a calling that was such a HUGE part of my life. I don't really know how to deal with it and talking with him has really helped me. He is my levelhead and tends to reel me back in when I start going the wrong direction. So, I was trying to answer the question why....is there somthing I should be learning from this experience right now? And in the last couple of days I can say there is atleast one thing I've learned so far. I hope to learn more so that this gets easier for me!
I have learned that our Heavenly Father, when issuing us a calling, gives us 2 test. The first test is when the calling is extended...Heavenly Father wants to see if we will accept the calling, embrace the calling, make it apart of our lives, and do the best we can with what we have. Once he is satisfied with our efforts, the second test comes when he releases us. He wants to see how we will embrace our release. Are we willing to hand the baton to some one else? Help in anyway we can and move on to something else? Do we have faith in our Bishop and his counselors that they have been called of God and want only whats best for our ward?
I can say that this is where my faith is being testing! Don't get worried, I'm not about to fall away from the church but I can see where some people do over something like this! It use to seem silly that people would go so offended over a calling but now that I'm in the position, it doesn't seem silly at all!
This is also where I am grateful to have Christopher as my levelhead. I honor his Priesthood so much and I respect so much the advice he has given me!
So back to where my faith is being tested....I am torn between 2 very conflicting thoughts. My one thought is I have a testimony of the gospel, I know the church is true, and that our Bishopric is inspired and want what is only best for the ward. I have loved my calling so much and if I can allow someone else the same opportunities that I've had, then I should be happy to pass it on. On the other hand, my thoughts aren't as clear. I don't understand why I'm being released. What gave them the impression that it was time to release our presidency. I love my calling and they could see that among all of us! I'm not ready to give this calling up! And that makes me upset!
My other biggest struggle is I can't hide my emotions....Audrey held her emotions in while they released her and I just sat there and cried. I don't think the Bishopric would have realized how hard we took this unless I would have cried. Which comes easy for me since I'm pretty emotional to begin with.
Sunday is going to be really hard for me when they officially release us. But I know I need to step up to the plate and pass the second portion of my test. Something good will come out of this and I need to be positive!
It's almost excited to be issued a new calling.
I'm ready to serve wherever the Lord needs me. I know I can learn many things from this transition and I hope the spirit can be with me as I do so.
Audrey and Derek are going to the temple with me and Chris this friday. Will be really nice to sit next to her. She has been a huge support for me and I hope I have offered the same support to her. At times we had our differences but that was to be expected. I love her and truly feel that our friendship will go beyond this calling!

The time has come....

My heart is sad.....Sunday the Bishopric asked if they could come over and visit for a few minutes. I had no idea what is was about and honestly didn't think anything of it. Now I wish I would have told them not to come!! They've decided to release our Relief Society Presidency and call a new one. I didn't really know how to respond so I just sat there the whole time and cried. The Bishop said all the right things..."You guys have done a fabulous job" and "The next presidency has some big shoes to fill" but it didn't really help! Even 2 days later I'm still emotional about it. I love my calling as first counselor in the Gateway Ward. I love serving the sisters in Relief Society and I love planning activities to bring us closer together! Sure there were times when the calling was an inconvenience or it took alot of time away from my family but overall it was so much fun.
This has come as a total shock to all of us! I wasn't planning on being released until Chris and I moved out of the ward. And I think that is the hardest part. I'm not ready to give this calling to someone else. I love the presidency that we have and we were so excited about our 2nd year together. We did a fabulous job the first year and we were so confident that the 2nd year was going to be even more fabulous!
It's really hard to let go of! This calling has been so much of who I am and I have such a strong testimony of the Relief Society Program. I don't want to give it to someone else!!
Chris has been so good to me so far...letting me talk to him about it and cry. He isn't letting me go too far off the deep in. He keeps reminding me that this is where my testimony needs to come in. I need to know that our Bishopric is inspired and that this was something they prayed about. It definitely is easier said than done. Part of my just wants to say Nope not yet, I'm not ready! It's such a contradiction because I do have faith in our Bishopric....but at the same time! BLAH!
I called my mom Sunday night (because if anyone could relate it would be her- she and dad got released from their 6 year Temple President position last October) She gave me some really good advice. She told me that Heavenly Father gives us a calling to see if we will step up to the plate. When we have proven ourselves to him and he is satisfied with the work that we have done, he lets us move on to something else. I have to remember this. I took this calling and gave it everything I had. It has been a part of my life for the last year and I can leave it to someone else knowing that I did the best job I could and I'm proud of the job I did. Now I can give someone else the opportunity to have the same experiences that I've enjoyed and hope they step up to the plate too!
I have loved serving with Audrey Petersen, Tiffini Denham, and Tiffany Downey. Poor Marisa Stephens filled Tiffini's position as 2nd counselor when Tiffini moved and Marisa hasn't even been in long enough to prepare and complete her first enrichment. Poor girl. I talked to her a bit yesterday and she said she was a bit bummed but was glad she didn't have the attachment to it that Audrey and I had. Hopefully the new President will keep Marisa as her 2nd counselor. We pretty much had November's enrichment planned.
There will be alot of loose ends the next month or so. Crafts and things that have been planned that will either need to be cancelled or continued.
This is the first adult calling I've had that I have put everything in to. I'm sad to leave it behind. It still doesn't seem real and probably won't be real until the next few Sunday's come along. Especially since we are released but will be fufilling the calling until the next president and her counselor's are called.
I have to be positive, I'm excited to give someone else this opportunity and I'm so grateful that my Heavenly Father felt I was worthy to hold this calling. I hope He is proud of the work I have done. I am ready to serve where ever he sees fit. Just hopefully not in Primary! :) Just kidding!
Stay strong Lacey...keep your head up. Change hasn't been your best friend but continues to test you. I can move on from this even if I don't want to!
Thank you Chris for your support....it hasn't always been easy balancing our crazy schedules. Kinda felt like we were just getting the hang of it! :)
On the up side, I will have more time for my family. Audrey is having a baby soon and she needs that time with her family too. She needs my support right now too. She isn't taken this well, especially since it was so unexpected!
Chris and I will be in the Temple this Friday. I need to be there....I need to be okay with this, especially before Sunday.....
Until next time....hopefully not so emotional!

Thoughts for Elodie....

I started last year making Elodie a birthday album. The first one turned out so cute I thought it would be nice to make one every year. In each one I've made room for a note from both me and Chris....I don't want to wait till I make the album to write down my thoughts so here they are...

Dear Elodie,
I know last year I told you I can't believe you are 1, well now I am telling you this year, I can't believe you are 2!! You are my bright, happy, sweet little girl and I love you so much!! There are days that I look at you and can't believe that me and your daddy made something so special!! I love that you are my little girl! I love that I get to teach you all the things that will help mold you into adulthood! I am so thankful to my Heavenly Father for the opportunity to be your mother! I love your daddy. He is a hardworking, smart, dedicated man and I know he will teach you so much!! Especially when it comes to math!
Right now Elodie you are so smart and independent! Social like your mommy but sometimes reserved like your daddy. You are talking and signing like crazy!! You suprise me daily with the things you know! Sometimes you know things that make me wonder where you learned it from! Early in the year you knew what a Barbie was!! And you don't even own one!! :) Not yet anyway!
I want you to know that your Heavenly Father loves you! He wants you to be happy and if you make righteous decisions you will be happy! Your daddy and I will always be here to support and love you! It seems silly to tell you that now when you are only 2 but I want you to be able to look back on this and know that we have and will always support you! You are such a light in our family! Thank you for being my little girl!
love, Mom

Halloween Already??

So am I really thinking about Halloween already? I love Halloween. I love all the decorations and the fact that I actually have someone to dress up (Elodie) is an added bonus!! Today she found her Halloween costume from last year. She was a ladybug and looked SO cute in that outfit. It was suppose to fit her like a shirt but because she is so tiny, it was more of a dress on her. cuter that way I think. I put little black tights on her and black mary janes!! Oh she looked so cute!! This year the ladybug fits her like a shirt and that made me a bit sad. I don't have a clue what she will be this year. Her friend Isaac is going to be a cowboy so maybe she'll be his cowgirl! Wouldn't that be cute!
I also have Halloween on my brain because of this little project I am working on....

We are trying to incorporate more craft projects into the ward scrapbooking group. I wish I could say I made this up but I didn't...got it out of my fabulous Creating Keepsakes magazine. Turned out super cute and looks to be my new addiction!
Might be making one for everyone now! :)

Meant to say earlier that Chris is back in school. Started the day before I came home from Louisiana. Staying busy! It's really nice though because he only has 4 classes this semester so he is working alot more than he is in school! It's really nice on the bank and definitely helps that we don't have to use as much of our student loan money.

We just came from the Big Dirty this past weekend. We had a great time, mostly because this year we were in a trailer! Definitely makes a huge difference when you get a good nights sleep! We had another cake for Elodie. I can't believe we officially have a 2 year old!! She's basically been 2 for the last couple of weeks but now it is official!! Chris and I always said that we were going to start trying for another baby the summer after Elodie turned 2. Now that that is about 6 months away I don't know if I'm ready for that! It was always so easy to say we were going to try for another when it was like 2 years away. Now that it is within months away it's really scrary!! Maybe my feelings will change in a few months. I definitely don't think any of us are ready for another baby right now! No No No! :)
