1 month later.

We have been in our new house for a little over one month. Along with normal summer business we have stayed busy checking off our "To Do In Our New House" list.

We started in Addysen's room.
Then moved to Elodie's room.

And just a little bit ago tackled our family/dining/kitchen. It was a big task but surprisingly once we got started, it wasn't as time consuming as we thought it would be. We painted everything in 2 days and then did a board and batten wall a few days later.

For our first big home project, we are really pleased with how it turned out. I am planning to do the same board and batten wall in our front room. I don't plan on covering it up at all so it will be more of a focal point in the room.

I knew from the very beginning that I wanted the walls in this room blue. We found out quickly that finding the right color blue was going to be tricky. I wanted a blue that wasn't too blue, had a bit of gray in it, and because we were doing a big room I didn't want it to be too bright.  We tried 5 different colors before we found the perfect color. We did spend a few days with 5 different shades of blue on our wall. It's amazing how different blue looks throughout the day. You could find me and Chris sitting at our dining room table just staring at the wall at different times of the day...finding the right color blue was the most time consuming part. Once we had that decided, everything else went really smoothly. The one we picked is the second color from the left and then the 4th from the left too.

I documented our progress via instagram...

Once we finished the painting we started on the board and batten. I will say that the main reason this project was so simple is because 1. I have an engineer for a husband who drew up the measurements in Auto CAD...right down to the outlet behind the tv. 2. Home Depot did all the cuts for us with the exception of a few we did at home. and 3. We borrowed Chris' dad's power saw and electric nail gun!

The next step is decorating which mostly consist of hanging pictures that have been in boxes for over a year and doing a photo gallery on the ledge of the board and batten. I just put that picture up to see how well the frames would sit on the ledge.

It feels good to be checking things off our list. To see things in my head come out exactly how we invision it.

The next project on my list is the girls bathroom followed by the guest room. My mom is coming at the beginning of September and I want that room ready for when she gets here.

Summer List 2012: Paint Elodie's Room

After Addysen's room we moved right on to Elodie's room. Her room required very little prep work and we were able to tape and paint all in one night. She chose a bright blue color that I was a little worried about. I thought maybe it would make the room look really small but it turned out amazing. Such a beautiful color and with all the white furniture she has, it's a really pretty contrast. She is so excited about it and again it will be so fun to decorate....later. Much. Much. Much later!

Summer List 2012: Paint Addysen's Room

We need to paint our entire house. We decided to paint Addysen's room first because it had the most damage. I mentioned before that it looked like someone had taken a thumb tak and poked holes through out the entire room. Some of the holes were spaced far apart and others were in patches. Really weird. We spent a lot of time filling all those holes. Thankfully they filled easily and after a nice coat of paint you can't even tell there were any holes! Addysen was set on purple. Technically she wanted a bright purple room and a blue sparkly closet. We settled on a nice grayish purple. She loves it and I can't wait to decorate. Which will come much much later!

Empty House Tour

I ran through the house today and took some "empty house" pictures. Christopher made a trip from our storage unit last night so our front room has a few things in it. This is the view from the front door.

When you first walk in. To the right of the entry is our front room. It will stay empty for a while but our plans our to paint it gray with accents of blue. We will eventually get a couch in here and I have a chair from our old sofa set that I want to recover with a different fabric. Chris' parents are giving us their piano (which I am super excited about) so that will go in here too. It will be a very simple room with not much else in it. I also want to do a board and batten wall with a picture gallery above it. If you walk past the front room it will take you into our kitchen/dining area/family room. It's one big area that I'm not looking forward to painting. This is the kitchen. One of the main reasons we picked this house (besides the fact that the market is slim pickings!) is how little work we needed to do to the house. Besides paint everything was in great shape. Tile in all the right places. Carpet looked great. We love the color of the cabinets and while the counters aren't granite I still really like them. Other than the fact that we have a white fridge and the rest of the appliances are black, we have no complaints! We plan to paint this room a very faint shade of blue with accents of gray. A gray sectional and pops of green around the room. I'm excited. From the kitchen, this is the view of the dining room (our table will sit under the light fixture) and family room. I love how open this space is. The kitchen isn't isolated from the family room. Just off the kitchen is the downstairs bedroom and bathroom. The girls immediately coined the area as "MawMaw's room". There is also a walk in closet that will be great for storage and toys. Somehow I walked away without getting a picture of the bathroom....
This is the loft once you go up the stairs. We love that the girls will have their own tv space. We plan to put our beat up 10 year old couch up here for them. Master Bedroom. I didn't take a picture of the bathroom and closet space. But it's there too. This is the view from the door of the master bedroom. Evyn's room is to the left of our door. I love all the cabinet space and long counter at the end of the hall. Our laundry room is fairly small so this space makes up for it.

EK's room.

The girls bathroom. Still the ladybug theme. I plan to put a chair rail in place of the towel bar and paint the bottom half of the wall red. Then we will put 3 hooks lower so the girls will have an easier time hanging their towels, swimsuits, and such. This bathroom also has 2 sinks which will be lovely during
teeth brushing.

The laundry room is the door after the bathroom but I didn't get a picture of it either. Then the 2 older girls rooms are at the end of the hall. Their rooms are fairly small but since they don't have to share it's the perfect space for each of them. If in the future, they want to share a room, the closets are big enough to put a dresser in. I don't see that happening but the option is there.

Addysen's room. She wants it purple. And I plan to add in gray and green accents. Her room will be painted first as it's got all these small holes through out the entire room. As if the previous occupant poked holes with a thumb tak. All. Over. The room.

Elodie's room. She wants blue walls and I am going for coral accents in her room.

So there you have it. The unfancy tour of our home. We are excited to settle in and make it our own.

Wordless Wednesday.

It's ours. We signed the last of the papers yesterday. The long version and pictures to come.
